“Appreciation Elevates Emotions”

Today’s Principle

Appreciation lifts your spirits and transforms your emotional energy.
Appreciation isn’t just a nice thought — it’s the deliberate focusing of your mind in a direction that opens the heart and shifts the nervous system into a more coherent, uplifted state.

Appreciative Inquiry invites us to ask better questions: What’s going well? What’s working? What can I celebrate?

Today’s Hypothesis

“If I redirect my attention toward what I appreciate — no matter how small — I can shift my emotional energy and experience more flow, ease, and connection.”

This isn’t about pretending things are perfect. It’s about finding even one thing that is working, and letting that be your entry point.

Today’s Experiment: FIND FIVE

Today, your challenge is to find five things you genuinely appreciate. They don’t have to be profound. Just real. Examples:

  • A hot shower

  • A kind text

  • Your morning coffee

  • A quiet moment

  • Something beautiful you saw

Every time you notice something, pause and really feel the appreciation in your body for 10 seconds. Breathe in the good feelings and notice what changes within you.

What is “Appreciative Inquiry?”

Appreciative Inquiry is a practice of asking empowering questions that focus on strengths, possibilities, and what’s already working — instead of what’s wrong or broken. It helps us shift from problem-solving mode into a more creative, expansive mindset.

Extra Credit Experiment: Try one of these appreciation exercises to elevate your energy.

  • Express your appreciation out loud, whether to yourself or a friend.

  • Activate an inner smile and breathe feelings of appreciation into your body.

  • Any time you catch your mind focusing on what’s going wrong, step back and consciously redirect your focus to something you can appreciate.
